After a Liver Biopsy
Biopsy results take a few days to come back.
After a liver biopsy, a patient can expect the following:

People may need to stay at the hospital or in outpatient care for 3 to 4 hours after the procedure.

Nacogdoches Gastroenterology will review the discharge instructions with the patient—or with an accompanying friend or family member if the person is still groggy—and provide a written copy. All instructions given should be followed.

A friend or family member will need to drive the person home after the procedure.

Full recovery is expected in 24 to 48 hours; patients should avoid intense activity, exercise, or heavy lifting during this time

Soreness around the incision site may persist for about a week.Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or other pain medications that do not interfere with blood clotting may help. Patients should check with Dr. Jones before taking any pain medications
